When did Chevy Beretta’s first start using air bags and is it illegal to disengage them?

I have a 1990 Chevy Beretta that I’m restoring and like cars without airbags, I’m eventually gonna want to get a newer model but without the airbags in them.
I am only 5′3″ and would prefer to not be decapitated by 300 lbs. of air coming straight at my already ugly face. I Do Not Like Airbags And Refuse To Have Them In My Vehicles.
Steps On How To Do CPR

The beretta first started using airbags in late 19901991 you can disengage them but believe it is illegal to sell car with disengaged air bag.
