The Amazing 2010 Chevy Camaro

chevy
nlwest21 asked:

The first Camaro was built forty years ago. In 2002 Chevy made the difficult to decision to retire the muscle car much to the disappointment of many enthusiasts.

Almost eight years later Chevy is reviving the Camaro in response to the new Ford Mustang. Chevy has plans to release the newly redesigned Camaro in 2010 in two models; the V8 and the V6. The V6 model will be available in both the LT and LS trims. The V8 has been dubbed by the automaker as the SS.

Both the SS and LT models will come available with an RS package appearance which will include; a rear spoiler, HID headlamps produced with integrated halo rings, 20” wheels, and tailored tail lamps.

The final production version of the coupe and convertible models will be similar to the concepts. There will be a few minor differences like the type of paint that will be used. Chevy is preparing to make it available in 10 body colors. Besides this though the design - while modernized - is still very close to the 1969 Camaro.

Following tradition Chevy will be equipping the new 2010 chevy Camaro with the affordable V6 engine as well as two performance V8 engines. The models using the V6 will also be equipped with GM’s new 3.6 liter twin cam design with direct injection. The V8 will be equipped with the 6.2 liter.

The models that have manual transmission will be given the LS3 version - which can push out 422 horsepower. The V8 model - L99 - will be produced with the 6 speed automatic and GM’s Active Fuel Management sylinder-deactivation.

Chevys Future After Bankruptcy Could Be Grim

chevy
Ronnie Tanner asked:

Chevy’s Future After Bankruptcy could be rather grim for Chevy for several reasons. First, problems with being associated with a parent company(GM) that is notorious for making bad vehicles will hurt Chevy’s ability to stand out in a crowd of US automakers fighting for survival. GM’s long-term debt problems also make one wonder if Chevy may become one of the next brands GM might consider selling off in order to reduce long-term debt obligations. If they did, GM might have to say “good-bye” to an American icon that brought such great cars like the.. well..the Camero!

Then there’s the problem of a bad US economy’s impact on future care sales. When the economy starts to grow again, consumers will be looking for much more bang for their dollars in everything they purchase–especially big ticket items like vehicles. There’s nothing to convince people that Chevy has the products or the brand loyalty in place to withstand the changes needed to make cars more enticing in this changing US market. If Chevy is banking on the new Volt to get them out of the doldrums, they are sadly mistaken. It will take a much more robust and dynamic selection of all types of vehicles to convince value-driven consumers a Chevy is a vehicle worth owning.

Furthermore, Chevy (as well as GM, really) has to convince a nervous buying public that they will actually be around in 5-10 years to handle any problems that these new vehicles that supposedly have value could have. What if you need to take your Chevy to a dealership for service or to honor a warranty? Will Chevy be around to do those things? GM(and hence Chevy) haven’t begun to convince anyone that will emerge from bankruptcy as better companies. That’s why it’ll be very hard for Chevy to turn around because they ride the coat tails of their parent company, GM. So if GM has any problems in the future, they could be passed on to Chevy with dire consequences.

Finally, Chevy has image problems that go beyond a parent company who’s notorious for making bad vehicles. Since when has Chevy made a “cool” vehicle that people would feel hip and cool driving? Don’t count the Camero or the Impala–They are SOOO 20th century that it’s not even funny! Until they do, Chevy could be in more trouble than people realize or want to think is possible.

Freescale Chips on Chevy, Gmc Hybrids

chevy
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

General Motor Corp. in partnership with Freescale Semiconductor Corp. will be promoting improved fuel efficiency by using innovative chips. Freescale chips will be used in Chevy and GMC hybrids to pave the way for a green makeover.

According to reports, Freescale chips that control the combustion and electric engines as well as the transmission in the new Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon hybrids have produced a 50 percent increase in mileage over their counterparts. The hybrids are efficient for both city and highway. To note, they can tow a 6,000-pound cabin cruiser. The hybrids are now arriving at Valley Chevy and GMC dealerships.

John Hartley, Internet sales manager at Midway Pontiac GMC in Phoenix, said there is considerable interest in the vehicles. However, the production of the hybrid sport utilities is currently limited.

The increase in fuel efficiency is attributed to the automaker’s two-mode hybrid transmission that is operated by Freescale’s advanced microcontroller technology.

“The automotive industry is a very significant part of Freescale’s business,” said Tony Massimini, an analyst with research company Semico Research Corp. “And the hybrid market is becoming very important part of the U.S. car business.”

The Austin, Texas-based supplier of microcontrollers found in American cars, is determined to improve the offers of automakers in the industry. And its cutting-edge products are expected to make it happen.

Kevin Klein, vice president of marketing for Freescale’s automotive group, said that a current luxury car can contain over 100 chips that control everything from disc brakes to parking-assistance radar. He added that automotive chip sales now amount to about a third of Freescale’s $5.7 billion in annual revenue.

The innovative technology offers two driving modes. Using the first driving mode, the vehicle can operate at low speed and with light loads in three ways: electric power only, engine power only or in any combination of engine and electric power, reported The Arizona Republic. The second mode, meanwhile, is used primarily at highway speeds. This mode provides full eight-cylinder engine power when road conditions require. It can be employed when passing other vehicles, climbing a steep grade or pulling a trailer. Additionally, a refined control unit settles which mode the vehicle should use.

“With the introduction of the world’s first full-size hybrid SUVs, GM is pioneering a niche in the automotive market that’s in step with today’s growing concerns about the environment and global warming,” said Paul Grimme, senior vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Microcontroller Solutions Group. “We’re proud that Freescale technology is helping make these innovative, fuel-efficient SUVs a reality in the market.”
