Safety In Prints Kids will provide parents with FBI quality fingerprints and photos of their child(ren). Custom software captures a child’s fingerprints using digital inkless capture device. There is no database and no records of the prints are maintained. No personal information is asked. Parents are then provided with an 8 ½ x 11” printout of their child’s prints alongside their child’s photo, which can be used to turn over to authorities anywhere in the world to aid in the event of a missing child investigation.

Other Special Activities

To round out the Safety In Prints event, the Cheshire Fire Department will have a manned fire engine on display and the Cheshire Police Department will conduct child safety seat inspections in the parking lot. Cheshire Youth and Social Services will have an information table.

Attendees will also enjoy demonstrations from Valentin Karate, Dynamite Academy of Gymnastics and Miss Cindy’s School of Dance in addition to face painting and balloons; free pizza from Domino’s and refreshments courtesy of McDonald’s.

“It has a 409 V-8,” former Kansas Gov. Bill Graves said about his 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport convertible. “That’s the important part.” Graves got the red convertible 15 years ago. He described it as a car he had to have because of a used 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air four-door sedan that he drove to high school in Salina, Kan.

Back then, he desperately wanted a 409-cubic-inch V-8 engine in a car with two fewer doors and a top that went down, but his father thought otherwise, Graves said. He became governor in 1995 and served until January 2003. During his term, the car did not get much use so it had been put together to close a speedy deal at an auction.

He patched things up by sending the 171/2-feet-long car to a restoration shop in Hutchinson, Kan., for a timely overhaul. Now, Graves said, “the motor is a thing of beauty.” The car was then trucked to Kansas City, where the cosmetic imperfections were cured. When it rolled out of that shop on its 119-inch wheelbase, it looked better than new. “They made it whole again,” Graves said.

In 2003, he flew to Washington to report for duty as the President of the American Trucking Association in Alexandria. His cherished Chevrolet came later, in the same moving van as his household goods. The restored Chevrolet stands 55.8 inches high and is 77 inches wide. It easily fitted inside the mover’s trailer. After the trip, the fluids were replaced, which meant filling the 20 gallon gasoline tank, adding five quarts of oil to the engine and 22 quarts of coolant to the radiator.

Now that the Graves family is settled in McLean, the former governor and his car have been reunited. The Impala may not have Chevrolet pickup running boards to create a dramatic finishing touch but the former posses the attributes that Graves desire. He said that he has driven the rebuilt engine a mere 2,417 miles. With a four-barrel carburetor feeding premium fuel to the big engine, it generates potent 340 horsepower.

According to the automaker’s records only 3,555 Impala Super Sport models were manufactured during the 1964 model year. Each one carried a base price of $3,196.

To make driving easier, Graves has added power steering to his Chevrolet. As a concession to safety, especially when his daughter is a passenger, seat belts have been installed. Occasionally, he will pick up his daughter at her school while driving the red convertible. “It makes quite an impression in the car-pool lane,” he conceded.

A reverberator on the radio was a famed addition when the car was new. In the late 1950s, the automaker’s chief engineer described the Impala as a “prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen.” For many years, the Impala was the best selling vehicle in the United States, and its 1965 sales of over one million units remain as an unbeatable record.

The ‘08 Colorado comes with two- or four-wheel drive in three body-style configurations namely regular cab, extended cab with short reverse-opening doors or crew cab with four regular forward-swinging doors and a 5-foot cargo box. Meanwhile, you may opt for three primary trim levels which include the base “Work Truck”, midlevel LS and high-quality LT. The “Work Truck” features air-conditioning and an AM/FM stereo while the LS offers upgraded seating and trim. The LT comes standard with in-dash CD changer, larger five- cylinder engine, accessories and remote keyless entry. Other options include heated leather seats, a six-disc CD changer, satellite radio, sunroof, grille cards, bed extender and 18-inch wheels.

The Colorado’s standard 2.9-liter four-cylinder engine makes 185 horsepower and torque of 190 pound-feet with an optional 3.7-liter inline five-cylinder with 242 hp and 242 lb-ft of torque. Most four-cylinder Colorados comes with five-speed manual transmission while a four-speed automatic is standard on five-cylinder trucks.

Standard antilock brakes, OnStar emergency communications, side impact airbags and traction control provide safety and convenience. The Colorado earned perfect five-star rating in government frontal impact crash tests for the protection of the driver and front passenger and a four-star rating for front occupant protection in side-impact testing.

The interior design of the 2008 Colorado is simple with an organized layout of controls and gauges. Another great feature is the presence of a dual-position tailgate that provides better support. However, rear legroom is not as spacious as the room up front and the rear door openings are also small.

The 2008 Chevrolet Colorado has a reasonably smooth engine with softly tuned suspension that promises a comfortable ride at an affordable price.

Chevrolet was co-founded by Louis Chevrolet, a race car driver, and William C. Durant. William Durant, founder of General Motors, had been forced out of GM in 1910 and wanted to use Louis Chevrolet’s designs to rebuild his own reputation as a force in the automobile industry. On November 3, 1911, Chevrolet entered the automobile market to compete with the Ford Model T. A year later, the “Classic Six” was introduced. The Classic Six was a five-passenger touring sedan equipped with a 299 in3 (4.9 L), six-cylinder engine capable of taking the car to a top speed of 65 miles per hour (104 km/h).

Chevrolet first used its “bowtie” logo in 1913. This logo is said to have been designed from wallpaper Durant once saw in a French hotel. Reportedly, in 1908, Will Durant detached a small piece and kept it in his wallet, waiting for the day he’d put it to use. The Bowtie became an advertising icon, and is still the marquee of today’s Chevrolet.

In 1916, Chevrolet was profitable enough to allow Durant to buy a majority of shares in GM. After the deal was complete in 1917, Durant was president of General Motors, and Chevrolet was merged into GM, becoming a separate division. In the 1955 model year Chevrolet introduced the small block V8 engine, the most famous and versatile V8 engine ever produced. This engine became a hit with hot rodders and almost overnight became the engine of choice replacing the flathead Ford engine as the hot rodders preferred motor. In 1955 the 265 cubic inch engine was the smallest V8 engine offered by the big three U.S. automakers, however, no other U.S. car could out perform it.

Famous Chevy models include the large and luxurious Impala (1958) and the innovative air-cooled rear-engined Corvair (1960-1969.) Chevrolet had a great influence on the American automobile market during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1963, one out of every ten cars sold in the United States was a Chevrolet.

2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Chevy’s redesigned 2007 Avalanche retains its forebear’s midgate magic, but the entire package has been overhauled as part of GM’s full-size truck platform revamp. Three trim levels are available: LS, LT and LTZ; each can be equipped with rear, or four-wheel drive. At 221 inches long, the Avalanche is about the same length as its predecessor and just an inch short of Chevrolet’s extended-length Suburban. A coil-over-shock independent front suspension replaces the previous torsion bar arrangement. The 5.3-liter V-8 in the four-wheel-drive Avalanche LTZ makes 310 horsepower and 335 pounds-feet of torque. Two-wheel-drive models carry a different version of the engine with slightly higher output, while a 6.0-liter V-8 is optional across the board. All three engines come with a four-speed automatic transmission.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo

Longer, taller and wider than the outgoing Aveo, the new sedan has an all-new exterior and interior design that gives it a more upscale look. LS and LT trim levels will be offered and customers can look forward to a wide range of features, including a two-tone interior color scheme, a radio input jack for iPods, a power sunroof, a six-disc CD changer, and steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. Built to carry five 6-foot-tall adults, the larger Aveo also provides 12.4 cubic feet of trunk space, and that’s before the 60/40-split rear seats are folded down. A 103-horsepower, 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine is mated to the Aveo’s standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission.

2007 Chevrolet Malibu

In the Malibu, a four-cylinder engine and two V-6s are offered. For 2007, the smaller V-6 gains variable valve timing for an 8 percent power increase. Other changes this year include standard side curtain airbags on all models (they were previously standard only on top-level Malibus), a passenger sensing system for the front airbags and available turn-by-turn directions with GM’s OnStar service. Trim levels include the base LS, as well as the LT and LTZ. Compared with its predecessor, the current version has a slightly wider stance. Mounted on a 106.3-inch wheelbase, the Malibu is 188.3 inches long overall. LS models ride 15-inch tires, the LT gets 16-inchers, and the new LTZ rides on 17-inch rubber. LTZ models feature aluminum wheels.

2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

The 2007 TrailBlazer offers a standard 4.2-liter inline-six-cylinder engine as well as an optional 5.3-liter V-8 both working with a four-speed automatic transmission. The latter engine includes General Motors’ Active Fuel Management technology, which deactivates four cylinders under light loads such as highway cruising. TrailBlazers come in base LS and step-up LT trim levels. A high-performance SS model packs a sport-tuned suspension and a 6.0-liter V-8 from Chevrolet’s Corvette sports car. The TrailBlazer rides a 113-inch wheelbase and measures 191.8 inches long.

Chevrolet is General Motors’ largest brand currently offering 19 vehicles and many different enhanced versions. The brand’s vehicles range from compact cars to large SUVs.
