Chevrolet’s Domination to be Challenged

chevrolet
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

At the ongoing Nextel Cup Series, Chevrolets have been dominating by winning thirteen out of the fourteen point races so far. This domination is what Ford, Dodge and Toyota are planning to challenge at the upcoming Citizens Bank 400 which is scheduled to take place on the 17th of this month at the Michigan International Speedway. While the speedway will be held at the hotbed of the Big Three, so far, Chevrolet cars remain to be the only car to beat this season.

Aside from winning all but one race this season, the Chevrolet Impalas have taken most of the top five finishes in all races. The domination of Chevrolet cars in this year’s Nextel Cup Series is apparent in the fact that the top twelve spots in the standings are occupied mostly by Chevrolet teams. In fact, out of the twelve drivers leading the season, ten are driving Chevrolet Impalas.

The leader, Jeff Gordon, racing for Hendrick Motorsports, is driving a Chevrolet. This goes true for Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., and Mark Martin. The only non-Chevrolet driver to place in the top twelve are Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards - both driving a Ford.

“We’ve had a great start to the year, but we want to carry it up to and through the Chase”, says Jeff Gordon. The co-owner of Hendrick Motorsports, Gordon is currently tied with teammate Jimmie Johnson in number of victories this season. Johnson is last year’s winner of the Nextel Cup Series.

Dodge and Ford drivers though have history on their side. Since 2001, no Chevrolet car has won a race at the Michigan International Speedway. The last Chevy driver to post a win at the circuit is Jeff Gordon when he took the win on June 10, 2001. For eleven races, either a Dodge or a Ford car has won at the track in Michigan. This means that the struggling Toyota teams will have to contend with Chevrolet’s domination as well as history being on the side of Dodge and Ford and both of which call Michigan their home.

The only non-Chevy car to win a race this season is the Ford driven by Matt Kenseth at the Auto Club 500 - the second race of the season held at the California Speedway. After that race, Chevrolet has affirmed its dominance by winning all races and taking numerous top five finishes. “Certainly we realize there’s a little work to do to be a contender for a win every week like (Gordon) and some of them guys,” says Kenseth.

Meanwhile, Gordon is keen to extend Chevrolet’s winning streak on board his Chevy Impala, the performance of which can be likened to a Chevy light truck with a Chevrolet pickup throttle body assembly. “We’ve been competitive almost every race,” says Gordon. “When we weren’t, we either worked really hard on the car throughout the race and made it better, or my crew chief, Steve Letarte, made the right call in the pits to give us a shot at the win or a good finish.”

Meanwhile, Dodge’s hope of breaking the dominance of Chevrolet was strengthened by Dodge Charger driver Ryan Newman who posted back-to-back second place finishes. Mike Accavitti, the Dodge brand director, has this to say: “We’re not going to count on breaks. We’re going to count on performance, and our performance is improving.”

Chevrolet Reasserts Dominance, Stewart Wins Race

chevrolet
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

After winning only one out of the last four races going into the USG Sheetrock 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway, Chevrolet teams are looking to once again dominate the field. Although far from a dominating performance since four non-Chevy cars are in the top eight, a win is a win for Chevrolet teams.

Tony Stewart, driving the Number 20 Home Depot Monte Carlo SS, took the win for Chevrolet. His win at the USG Sheetrock is his first victory this season. The win also marked the former two-time champion’s 30th Cup career win and the second at the Chicagoland Speedway.

Aside from Stewart, five other Chevrolet drivers finished in the top ten after the race with two Ford and two Dodge drivers completing the list. Roush Fenway Racing’s Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards finished second and third respectively. Kenseth and Edwards are both driving Ford cars. Kevin Harvick, driving for Richard Childress Racing on board his Chevrolet Monte Carlo, finished fourth. Casey Mears rounded up the top five on-board his Number 25 National Guard/GMAC Monte Carlo SS.

Kurt Busch, on his Dodge Charger driving for Penske Racing, finished sixth. Seventh after the race was Jeff Burton on his Number 31 AT&T Monte Carlo SS for Richard Childress Racing. Ryan Newman driving for Penske Racing finished eighth. Hendrick Motorsports’ Jeff Gordon finished ninth and Clint Bowyer finished tenth onboard his Number O7 Jack Daniel’s Monte Carlo SS which is designed to go faster than road bound Chevy vehicles, even those equipped with Chevrolet pickup power tuning chip.

Stewart credited his car’s condition and his team’s performance for his win at the nineteenth race of the season. “It was good,” said Stewart of his car. “It was really good all day. The thing about here is you’ve got to have it so free on the front of a run to be good in the center and the end and we luckily, even with all those restarts, we never got a chance to get enough laps on the tires to really let us get tight enough. We were still just a little bit free there at the end….”

“It was good enough in clean air even though it was free to stay out front. We just kept wanting a long run. We didn’t want to see those cautions there at the end. Matt (Kenseth) was really good on restarts, I mean really, really good on restarts. I couldn’t make a mistake. If I made one mistake I was going to have a hard time explaining to these guys how I lost the race,” Steward added.

As for his team, the veteran driver has to say: “What won us the race is (crew chief Greg) Zippy (Zipadelli) and these guys - the pit crew - did an awesome job today. They kept us the track position at the end and that’s what we needed. Track position was so important to let us run our pace and run the line that we wanted to run without having to worry about getting in dirty air. Thanks to these guys around me, that’s what got us in Victory Lane again.”

\’67 Chevrolet Impala Goes Supernatural

chevrolet
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

The 1967 Chevrolet Impala went the extra mile to become a supernatural car. Not that it became a shaman or something magical - the Impala is part of a paranormal television series dubbed ‘Supernatural.’

In the Supernatural show, Winchester brothers travel the highways and minor roads of North America in quest of their missing father. Along the way they stumble upon various evil spirits with which they fight.

Now in its second season, Channel 10’s Supernatural intends to show other big stars aside from brothers Dean and Sam Winchester. And that big star is the ’67 Impala - a big black American muscle car. Many viewers wondered what kind of car the Winchester brothers drive. Actually, the car owned by older brother Dean is, in fact, a four-door 1967 Chevrolet Impala.

When the car was destroyed at the end of the first season, Eric Kripke, the creator of the show Supernatural, divulged he was inundated with letters from fans wanting to know if the vehicle was going to make a return. “When I was originally writing the show I wanted to give the guys an American muscle car,” Kripke said. “My first choice was a ‘65 Mustang. My neighbor said it had to be a ‘67 Impala because you can put a body in the trunk. “He says, ‘You want a car that, when people stop next to it at the lights, they lock their doors’.”

The Impala, launched in 1958 as an upmarket, sporty product line for Bel Air coupes and convertibles, features classic styling cues that include six taillights. In 1959, the car became a separate model in both two- and four-door versions.

Eventually, the car became the best-selling car in the Chevrolet lineup. Starting in 1960, the car holds the best-seller title for the next decade. To stress, from 1958 until 1966, sales of the Impala were in excess of 13 million units, more than any other full-size car in the auto history. In 1965, the car etched an all-time annual sales record of more than one million units in the United States. Up until the present time, the record of more than 13 million sales has never been surpassed.

In 1973, when energy crisis became a big headache, sales of the car declines. This event has prompted the automaker to redesign the car to meet the changing demands of the purchasers. The production of the car continues to this day. The 1967 model as featured on the show came with a choice of inline six-cylinder as well as the famous Chevy small-block and big-block V8s.

The Impala may not be featuring some renowned parts like the Chevrolet pickup overhead racks but the car makes history by itself. Ed Cole, Chevrolet’s chief engineer in the late 1950s, defined the Impala as a “prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen.”

Five black Impalas are utilized in the production of the Supernatural. In the pilot episode, the Impala’s huge trunk is revealed to hold a traveling armory of weapons used by the Winchesters to fight the supernatural forces. The Impala has a Sedgwick County, Kansas license plate KAZ 2Y5, a reference to Kansas, the lead stars’ home state.

The Impala has been nicknamed the Metallicar by fans of the show. The car takes its name from the speedy antelope found on the grasslands of central and southern of Africa. The two-door Super Sport version of the car is credited for the inception of the muscle car milieu. For the 2009 or 2010 model year, the Impala will be heavily redesigned. Sales are expected to begin by 2008.

Chevrolet Silverado Awarded 2007 Motor Trend\’s Truck of the Year

chevrolet
Gertrude asked:

The model lifespan of new vehicles is likened to that of the presidential term of office since they usually get voted in every four years however pickups are different being extremely popular in the United States usually stayed for two terms.

Moreover since producing full-size pickups are also immensely profitable, automakers tend to spend more on further improving the quality of their truck parts. Plus they make sure that they employed only the best and brightest product engineers and planners to help them create the next blockbuster pickup that can become the next contender for the next Truck of the Year award. And for this year Motor Trend has chosen two pickup trucks from the stable of the world’s largest automaker—the new Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

In choosing the Truck of the Year one of the criteria is significance in which the Silverado scored high. The sales of the two brands tally well, each achieving over a million units year in and out courtesy of the numerous combinations and permutations of cabs, drivetrains, beds, and suspensions offered. The Silverado has also recorded high in terms of sales on both Chevrolet truck accessories and Chevrolet truck parts. Its Chevrolet truck part components are made from high-grade materials—only the best from GM.

Unfortunately, market significance doesn’t have that much effect on the Truck of the Year voter base. Each of the truck has to prove its worth and this means passing several tests that are to be conducted by the judges on Motor Trend.

The fresh styling of both trucks have made quite an impression and have successfully differentiates the two trucks from each other. However since it’s a competition there would always be some features that would make one truck to outshine the other. The Silverado’s chrome-bisected grille and brawnier square-shouldered quarter panels enhanced the truck’s looks. Its interior design is made even more impressive with Chevy’s fake wood earning higher marks than the Cadillac’s timber.

On the other hand, the entry-level dash fitted to Sierra makes it classy. The seats both the front and back provides great support while the interior’s hush is so quite that no squeak or rattle can be heard. The new cargo bed earned high marks for utility especially since its equipped with a cargo-management system and spring loaded EZ-Lift tailgate. The judges also appreciated the low sides of the bed which makes it easy to reach unlike the cargo boxes found on the Avalanche/Escalade EXT and the current Ford F-150.

The Silverado’s 5.3 liter V8 featured fuel-saving displacement on demand and a clever dash readout that indicates if it’s operating in V4 mode. This boost fuel economy to an EPA rated 16 mpg city/20 mpg for highway. Only the Dodge Ram Hemi is known to offer a similar system however its EPA numbers trail by 1 mpg each.

Some voters also expressed doubts about the overall smoothness of the engine and quality of the four-speed automatic’s shift but judges at Motor Trend has found the drivetrain of the 2.5 ton four-wheel-drive quite reliable in sprinting to 60 mph in a respectable 8.2 seconds which is 0.3 second faster than a rear-drive 5.4 liter Ford F-150 and 0.4 second quicker than the Dodge Ram Hemi 4×4. And that’s not all once loaded with 1050 pound load its sprinting time is only stretched by 1.2 seconds as compared to Ford and Dodge Ram Hemi which took additional 1.3 seconds.

And in a boat towing test conducted the Sierra and the Silverado has showed remarkable toting and towing prowess. The figures obtained by the two GM trucks are just part of the whole story. The Judges were very much impressed with the composure of the Silverado when loaded. The truck didn’t ride down on its bump stops and although its front is a little light the truck didn’t lose control.

A week long testing has satisfied the Motor Trend judges and the result shows that the new GM full-size pickups have earned excellent marks in terms of superiority front and by limiting the price increase to about $300 on most models, the Chevy and GMC faired well when it comes to Value Category. But since only one truck should be voted as winner all the judges have agreed to award the Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year for 2007 to the Chevrolet Silverado.

Mcguire Chevrolet Accepts Orders for All-wheel Drive Cts

chevrolet
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

Because of the anticipated strong demand for the premium 2008 Cadillac CTS, McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac is now accepting advance orders. The vehicle will be available this fall.

“The redesigned all-wheel drive 2008 Cadillac CTS is the answer to many of our customers’ wishes,” noted Mike McGuire, the President of McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac in Newton. “With winters such as they are here in Sussex County, our Cadillac CTS customers have been wanting the all-wheel drive feature,” he anticipates.

The 2008 CTS will go into production this summer with a late August or early September release in order to closely compete with Mercedes-Benz’ all new 2008 C-Class. The C-Class, according to Cadillac dealers on the east coast, will be released around the same time frame. McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac invites interested customers to stop in at the dealership, which is adjacent to the square in downtown Newton, to discover more about the latest car.

In an interview April last year, Bob Lutz disclosed part of a prototype Cadillac which was later on revealed to spectators. The car appeared to take design cues from the Cadillac Sixteen concept that was unveiled in 2003. Prototype models caught testing at the Nürburgring in Germany also got several design features from the unmasked car showcased last month. Spy shots from the Nürburgring prototypes also reflected a manual transmission. The CTS will also offer an all-wheel drive option.

At the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) this year, GM introduced the all-new CTS that will be offered as a 2008 model. The base model will be equipped with a 3.6-liter variable valve timing V6 that produces 258 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. A second version will be offered with a new 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 VVT engine with approximately 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque using regular unleaded gas. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard on all models. The six-speed Hydra-matic 6L50 automatic transmission will be optional. The on-demand all-wheel drive will be offered with both engines when equipped with an automatic transmission.

The new Cadillac CTS is made longer and wider, measuring 191.6 inches long, 72.5 inches (1841 mm) wide and 58 inches in height. It is also given a wider front or rear track of 61.8 and 62.0 inches respectively. Like its predecessor, the 2008 CTS is offered with rear- or, new for 2008, all-wheel-drive. Some braking, suspension and steering enhancements from last year’s CTS-V have been added to the standard CTS.

The all-new Cadillac CTS is equipped with nine-spoke, 18-inch wheels surrounded with larger high-performance brake calipers, rotors, and side air extractors on the front doors. Optional features include iPod integration, swiveling headlights, the Bose premium audio, and a remote start system. Though the car is not equipped with the Chevrolet pickup flex fan, the performance and the drivability of the car is said to be outstanding.

According to a recent issue of Motor Trend, a coupe and station wagon version of the CTS may be produced and sold in the United States, although GM feels that they may be more successful in Europe. Also, an American model of a Cadillac which would be based on the upcoming Saturn Astra may invade the territory in a sedan or four-door hatch form.

Separately, McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac also has agreed to supply 2007 Chevy HHRs to the “hole-in-one” competition at three upcoming charitable golf outings this season. Players at the Irene & Eric Simon Brain Research Foundation Golf Outing are the first to vie for the 2007 compact crossover SUV. The event is scheduled to happen on May 14 at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club.

On May 22, players at Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children will complete against golfers from around the state at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township, with the HHR as the top prize. “We’ve never had a golfer win a vehicle yet and we’re hoping this will be the year,” noted Mike McGuire, the President of the downtown Newton dealers.

McGuire Chevrolet Cadillac supports numerous Sussex County charitable events including golf outings to blood drives as well as coat, grocery and book drives or collections annually. Supporters of the Sussex County YMCA will also try their luck at winning the retro SUV, that is based from the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban, at the Sussex County YMCA’s Golf Outing. This is scheduled on May 16 at the Ballyowen Golf Course, Vernon.

Chevrolets Paints the Hhr Black

chevrolet
Joe Thompson asked:

Chevrolet did not think that their Chevrolet HHR vehicle model would actually become as popular as it is now. In fact, the brand is very much willing to admit that this vehicle has not been one of their top priorities when it comes to marketing and advertisements. But it looks like Chevrolet has now learned about the great possibilities this vehicle model could bring to the company and right now the company is expecting to sell 100,000 units this coming 2007.
And what could be more interesting than bringing out a special edition Chevrolet HHR so as to further bring up the sales of the mentioned vehicle. Everything remains the same with the vehicle Chevrolet auto parts, engine, exterior, appeal, design, performance except that for this new Fall Limited Edition, Chevrolet would be painting the Chevrolet HHR black.
The company even further asserts that the 2007 Chevrolet HHR would not be receiving any major changes. After all, despite being a cruiser that holds a retro kind of style, this vehicle still is selling like hotcakes. And with the new black edition of this cruiser, the company hopes to bring in more interested customers. All they need to have in hand is $20,265 and they can own one of these limited edition Chevrolet HHR Fall Limited Edition units.
So what can you expect with this special edition Chevrolet HHR? According to Chevrolet, they would be creating the vehicle using a monochromatic black on black color scheme. This would include not only the exterior body parts but other areas also like the using a black chrome trim on its wheels. The door handles would also be colored black along with the grille. The interior would be colored black.
If you are interested in purchasing such a vehicle, then you may want to start falling in line now to procure an order and be one of the first to sport this limited edition Chevrolet HHR around town. You see, the company stated that they would be creating only 4000 units of this special edition vehicle and that is sure a small amount compared to the huge number of people who would be clamoring to own one.
